Calm Birthing
Women taught self-hypnosis reduced their need for analgesia by half, epidurals by 70%, and were more than twice as likely to be satisfied with their pain management during labour compared to other women.” Research at the Women and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide. -reported by The Independent, January 30, 2007.
“Children born to hypnotised mothers scored higher on Apgar tests (a measure of health) and the mothers were less prone to post natal depression. Also those who have previously given birth without hypnosis advised doctors that hypnosis made labour a more pleasant experience. -Australian Study reported in Prevention Magazine, February, 2006
Calm birthing involves working with me and includes both Mother to be and her partner. Hypnosis techniques are used to promote an extremely relaxed state where pain is able to be controlled considerably.
Mum to be is taught self- hypnosis and is able to practice this prior to the birth. Her partner is equipped with various techniques to help assist with relaxation and encourage her self- hypnosis.
Subconscious suggestions made will always carry safety clauses, an example of this would be “You will feel pressure but NO pain....UNLESS for safety reasons it is necessary for the wellbeing of either Mum or Baby that PAIN will be felt as a necessary warning”. Safety always comes first.
Calm birthing usually only requires two to three sessions, one at around six to seven months and the remaining two around eight months. I have found Calm birthing to be a most sacred experience and I look forward to helping you welcome your little miracle into our world as easily and comfortably as possible.
